The first few classes are "welcome" classes in which the skaters are observed and grouped according to ability and skill level. Skaters are given a group number. The numbers are placed along the boards.
The students are taught fundamentals in their group and when a determined standard is reached, they will be tested and possibly re-grouped. Tests are done toward the end of the 10 week program. Achievement Ribbons are awarded once a "Pass" of all skills at the student's level are achieved.

This program is designed for young skaters not ready to skate alone. Parents assist the child in the orientation to the ice surface and the introduction of basic skating skills through fun activities including toys, songs and games. Parents must have a competent skating ability and be present on the ice to assist their child for the class' duration. Please, only one parent or guardian per child. Parents must be wearing skates while participating on the ice.

For the beginner skater who is capable of going on the ice on their own without accompaniment of a parent. Children with no previous skating experience are welcome in this program. This beginner program provides young children with an orientation to the ice surface and an introduction to the basics of skating through toys, songs and games. Parents do not participate.

The EDGES Learn to Skate program is a ten level program for beginners of all ages. Forward skating, backward skating, stopping, turning, spinning, jumping and the four basic edges are taught. Parents will be given a list of the skills required for each ribbon level.

This ten level program is designed for skaters who have achieved strong basic skills in the EDGES Learn to Skate program and would like to be introduced to the sport of Figure Skating. Through sound technique, skaters will be introduced to and receive instruction in Stroking, Field Movements, Jumping, Spinning and Footwork, at the recreational level.


The EDGES Adult Learn to Skate program is designed to teach adults of all ages the basic skills of skating or improve on the old ones they have already mastered. A fun program which enhances a healthy and active lifestyle. Ice hockey helmets are mandatory.
